Svadhisthana Chakra Yoga & Aromatherapy

Powerful, sweet, sultry and sensual Svadhisthana chakra or “dwelling place of the self” is the center of fluidity, fertility, and creativity. The 2nd chakra dominates relationships, intimacy, and sexuality and is a potent and crucial component to our daily lives. Involved in how we express our needs, how we give and receive, our emotional health, and our unconscious thoughts and habits, this passionate chakra can help us create a sanctuary of blissful union or wreak havoc in our relationships and inner lives if unbalanced.  This is the container of our literal life force energy, from which we all come from and holds the power of creation within it. Although it is associated with work on fertility, birth, and reproduction, we can broaden those definitions to include all things that we would like to create and grow in our lives. Working with this chakra is a way to become clearer in what you want to manifest in your life and how to create fertile ground for that work to become a reality. Desire and sexuality are qualities that can be useful for us to connect with ourselves and others, when in healthy balance, and can create suffering when not cultivated in nourishing ways. Located in the sacral area just below the naval, Svadhisthana chakra color is orange, connected to the sense of taste, the element of water, and the mantra is VUM. The lotus has 6 petals and a crescent moon at the bottom inside a full circle. Symbols on the lotus flower are the god Vishnu, god of preservation, who is seated on Garuda (divine eagle) as his vehicle, his consort Rakini or Chakini Shakti, one of the forms of the Kundalini Shakti (the feminine serpent energy coiled at the base of the spine). She has four arms holding a drum, a skull, an arrow, and an axe. (She's not f-ing around.) Lastly, at the bottom there is the light green makara or crocodile to symbolize Varuna, the god of water.

In a yogic practice, we can use the energy of Svadhisthana to ignite our creativity and let go of our perceived limitations or boundaries. Fluid, graceful, flowing, yoga movements and sequences are perfect to practice when working with this chakra. Turn your favorite music up loud and let your body dance on your mat with freedom and without restrictions to really hone in on the sensual god & goddess within you.

In aromatherapy we use scents that are light, floral, derived from fruits, and herbs. Love Hive’s Svadhisthana Chakra Blend contains ylang ylang for emotional balance, grapefruit for manifesting fruitfulness in our lives, and clary sage for hormonal balance. It is a light and feminine fragrance to remind us of the sweetness of the path and inspire us to move with the swagger of the most voluptuous, sensual goddess around--YOU!
